JANUARY TO DO LIST

January is new month, new year, new start. You can just do a few things this month, which will make a lasting effect.

Check smoke detectors and Carbon monoxide detectors:

Use the test button on each device, and change batteries, if needed.

Protect your pipes from Freezing:

Insulate all your outdoor exposed pipes, better to save them now then spend hefty amount of money on repairs, if they burst. Know where your water shut off valves are< and turn off the water to the outdoor hoses.

Prevent Ice dams:

Ice dams are areas of built-up ice that can accumulate around your roof line, causing leaks when the backed-up snow behind them begins to melt. Using a roof rake, remove snow after each storm.

Take down the holidays decorations and store them:

Wrap the delicate items in bubble wrap, declutter the ornaments, give away or donate which you don't want to keep. Replace any fused bulbs, and store everything away.

Clean out the kitchen and pantry:

Check the dates on pantry items, throw away the expired items. Wipe down the shelves before putting the items back. Check the dates on bottles/jars in fridge/freezer toss out expired items, wipe down the fridge.

Arrange your linen closet:

Linen closet is one area which gets disorganized very often. Arrange sheets on labeled shelves according to the size, or rooms. Make sure you have enough towels for the family, throw away any which are ripping, or fraying.

Clean and organize Coat Closet and accessories:

Take out everything and just put back the coats and outerwear that you use, donate which you are not using. Same with the winter accessories, gloves, hats, and scarves, go through them, toss out any gloves missing pair!

Declutter the under the sink cabinets in Kitchen and bathrooms:

Start by pulling out all items, check the dates, before you put them back. Any dry, empty containers will go in trash. Group the items according to their usage, throw away the samples.

Once you are done, you enjoy yourself by putting your legs up and having a drink :) If you want to keep going, one idea is to keep cleaning and decluttering a room per week.
